ENVIRONMENTAL ETHICS - SHORT LIST

1. Bring enough clothing and provisions.
2. Respect local customs and traditions.
3. Trek gently; Avoid widening trails and unnecessarily trampling vegetation.
4. Use established campsites; Avoid expanding the camp area.
5. Carry down all trash.
6. Pick up litter as you encounter these.
7. Use established latrines if provided; otherwise dig a cathole.
8. No soaps or detergents nor bodily discharges in a water source or waterway.
9. Avoid campfires. If you must, use dead wood.
10. Smokers must look after dropped embers and ashes. No smoking while trekking. Ashes and cigarette butts should be disposed in a covered container and carried out with you.
11. Keep the groups small.
12. If you must drink alcoholic beverages, do it moderately.
13. If you must listen to music, use an earphone, and only in the campsite if possible.
14. Be considerate of other campers. Speak softly and save rowdy games and horseplay for another time.
